TRUTH DROPS 101:
+ The overview
Truth Drops are super distilled insights, contemplations or personal stories that create an A-ha moment; deliver a nugget of truth; ask a provocative question; or answer a query you receive regularly.
+ What they are not
A Truth Drop is not an interview or a testimonial. It is not a place to rave about yourself, nor an opportunity to give a 4-min detailed instruction video on your ideas. This is a unique platform, it is an invitation, a taste, a teaser.
+ The difference
This is about creating a ‘pull’ not a ‘push’. Much of marketing and social media these days use the ‘push’ to get things in front of you, and often it is just loud and unsophisticated. Truth drops give your audience a classy reason to lean in, and they create a desire to want to know more.
+ Leave them better than you found them
You are offering them something of value, without assumptions or need for return. We leave your audience better than we found them, and that is how we elevate your brand.
+ Length of clips
Ideal length is 45-second to 75-seconds, and no longer than 2-minutes.
+ Editing
There is no fancy editing, camera cuts or compiling, as this breaks trust and dilutes authenticity. Truth Drops are a single take (even if it takes us 47 takes to nail it). It is not as easy as it seems, but it is worth the effort.
+ Black and white
Yes, they are all done in black and white.
SOUL PREPARATION:
+ List three key words to inspire your session
Close your eyes, take some deep breaths and contemplate how you would like to feel when you look at your Truth Drops. What do you want these to say about you? What emotions do you want them to elicit? Sharing your key words with me is unbelievably helpful for the shoot.
+ Your mood is paramount
Reality is, you’ll get epic content either way… but if you want to go deeper – if you want your essence captured in art form – then come in clear headed, open-minded, and positive. Do what you need to do to be in the right frame of mind – whether that’s meditation, calling your mom, taking a bath, yoga, boxing, origami or taking a luxurious day at the spa. You are responsible for what’s happening under the surface when you arrive.
+ Show up knowing why
Be clear on why you are doing this. Your motivation may be to get more clients, to get your message to a wider audience, or to perhaps get out of your own way. Whatever your true motivation, it’s time to be truly seen, so before you walk in the door… take time and get connected to your intention.
+ Two-way street
The shoot experience is a two-way street. Connection is key and your genuine participation will directly impact the success of your Truth Drops. BOTH of us must be willing, motivated, and enthusiastic. This is not the time to simply hand over your power. You must be as active and engaged as I am. I will provide you with all of my heart and art, please do the same… the camera will amplify the result.
+ Remember, have fun!
There’s actually nothing else to this one. Simply revel in the fact that you are about to have your message artfully conveyed and you get to call this work : )
LOGISTICS:
+ Prepare for this day as if it were a vacation
Clear your calendar. Do NOT schedule phone calls or meetings on the shoot day. In fact, you are warmly invited to completely turn your phone off for the day. Enjoy the excuse and tell your team that I told you it was required. Give yourself the advantage of complete focus.
+ Notes for your team
If you plan on having others there during your session to assist or help your mood, please make sure they are there to support you, quietly, and without the yearning to make artistic suggestion without permission. Please confirm all guests prior to shoot day.
+ Nourishment
There will be short opportunities to stop and eat, though we want to stay light and fluffy. Basic nourishment will be provided, though please make sure you eat prior and bring any healthy snacks that you love to keep you going… we must avoid the “hangry” at all costs : )
WHAT TO WEAR:
+ One but many
We will shoot your Truth Drops in one outfit. Please feel free to bring several options and I will help you finalise the best option. This can also be discussed prior to the shoot or on a video chat.
+ Basic Rule
Timeless and classic looks win over flashy or trendy preferences.
+ What to avoid
Avoid intricate details, patterns, polka-dots and pop culture trends. They may seem trendy today, but trust me, they date quickly. We are happy to shoot with you often, still we want your assets to last longer than a fashion cycle.
+ Style and colour
Choose (or enjoy the excuse to purchase) garments that are timeless and elegant. Interesting, clean neck lines. Preferably dark. You are encouraged to bring lighter options and colours that work for your skin tone. Suggestions for minimal and Scandinavian styles (nobody does timeless and elegant better).
+ Appropriate to audience and message
Be sure to communicate the style that will connect you with your audience. Ladies, that may be a dress, or it may be a blouse and suit jacket. Gentlemen, smart casual may be King, and if you have a corporate audience, consider a dress jacket and shirt, button-down and/or tie.
+ Accessories
If desired, bring thoughtful accessories in various styles. Strong recommendation to keep them simple. Poor choices will also quickly date the production.
BEAUTY PREPARATION:
+ Sleep
Get sleep. Show up well rested. You deserve it.
+ Be spacious
Make sure all your beauty necessities (hair, nails, etc) are done in plenty of time so that you’re feeling confident and accomplished when you show up on the day. Last minute madness is the last thing you want.
+ Hair and makeup
If you use makeup, keep it natural please (and have it with you). The goal is to authentically showcase YOU. Thick, nervous layers of makeup are not necessary and would be wise to avoid. Hair and makeup is not provided, though it can be sourced for a fee if required. If you choose to source help, I ideally do not recommend having your makeup done by someone you don’t know or have never worked with before.
